If you’ve sung Gratitude in church, you’ve already been singing Benjamin William Hastings’ words for years. The Northern Irish-born singer-songwriter has quietly become one of worship music’s most compelling voices—co-writing anthems like Cory Asbury’s The Father’s House, and Hillsong Worship’s O Praise The Name (Anástasis). But now, it’s time for him to share his own story in full.
Raised on the streets of Belfast, Hastings busked as a teenager before moving to Sydney in his early twenties to pursue a deeper calling in worship ministry. It was there he connected with the Hillsong United community—friends of his wife, Jessa—and quickly made his mark as both a worship leader and songwriter. He contributed lead vocals on fan-favorite tracks like So Will I (100 Billion X) and co-wrote songs that now echo through churches worldwide. Together, his songs have amassed more than half a billion streams—a testament to lyrics born not from formulas but from prayerful honesty.
Hastings’ writing is shaped by a love for poetry and ancient hymns—he’s known to recite the Lord’s Prayer as a spoken-word poem and weave liturgical rhythms into modern worship. His songs tackle doubt, imposter syndrome, parenthood, authenticity, and finding grace again amid church hurt—bringing raw honesty into rooms that need it most.
In November 2022, Hastings released his ambitious 25‑track self-titled debut through Capitol CMG, followed by deluxe and songwriter editions featuring live commentary. In October 2024, he delivered Sold Out, Sincerely, anchored by the reflective EP If It Wasn’t for Jesus, which climbed to #27 on the U.S. Top Christian Albums chart. This past April, he shared How I’d Sing It On a Sunday—an album that feels like a window into his own quiet worship moments.
Now based in Los Angeles with his wife Jessa (a bestselling novelist) and their two children, Hastings is no stranger to the road. He’s shared stages with Phil Wickham, joined Brandon Lake’s Miracle Nights Tour, and traveled the globe with Chris Tomlin × UNITED. This fall, he’s gearing up for not one but two major runs: he’ll open for the Air1 Worship Now Tour through mid-October and then step into the spotlight as headliner on the At The Heart Of It Tour—eight special U.S. dates with special guest Jamie MacDonald.
